How About a Contest to Ring in the New Year?

I'm determined to start 2011 off right, and what better way to do that than helping someone else start their manuscript off right? So, as a New Year's gift from me to you, I'm giving away either a first-50-pages critique, or a query-and-synopsis critique. Winner chooses!

Rules:
- Leave a comment telling me your most recent read, and give it a thumbs-up or thumbs-down.
- Your comment must also include your email address, so I can contact you if you win.
- Your manuscript must be finished.

That's it! You don't have to follow this blog, follow me on twitter, or anything (though if you want to, that's totally fine!). The deadline is Sunday, January 30th. The winner will be picked using a random number generator.

Good luck, everyone!

***This contest is in no way affiliated with the agency I work for.

  10. Last book, like, actual book, not a manuscript? Um... FALL FOR ANYTHING by Courtney Summers. While I loved loved loved her CRACKED UP TO BE, this one just didn't do it for me. It was too similar in structure to CUTB but with none of the pizazz and awesomeness. I don't think I could ever say not to read a book though, so how about a thumb sideways? Maybe it was just me and you'll love it?

  12. My last read was The Gift by James Patterson. It's the second book in the series. I got both books during a long layover at the airport. I would give the main characters a thumbs up but the pace (too fast) & the dialogue (too simplistic) I have to give a thumbs down. I guess it's a good read to pass time.

  13. My latest read was INDUSTRIAL MAGIC, the fourth book in Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. Overall, I'm giving the series a thumbs up. Any Canadian author who rocked the supernatural scene pre-Twilight gets my support. And just in the first few books, I can see a great improvement in her writing and storytelling. So I have faith in her.

Not to mention, I'm currently an intern at Random House of Canada, who is Armstrong's Canadian publisher. So I might be biased. But still. Thumbs up!

  14. My last read was (if counting rereads) DASH & LILY's Book of Dares. Thumbs up.
But in the end, last I read was MATCHED by Ally Condie. Hm, not sure about thumbs down or up. So I guess... both? But like a comment above, me it could be thumbs sideways

  20. Wow, you're so generous!

I went through a few books in the last few weeks because they were library books and due last September (yeah...)

One of them was SABRIEL by Garth Nix, which I've been meaning to read for a while. The beginning was slow for me, but I really liked the characters and plan to read the rest of the Old Kingdom Trilogy.

Then I read THIRTEEN REASONS WHY by Jay Asher. Haunting. Loved it.

Lastly I read THE SUMMONING by Kelley Armstrong. I feel the book could have started later in the story. I don't know, the pacing was off for me.

    Thanks again, Sammy!

  24. Wow, which book do I choose. I just recently read Fallen by Lauren Kate. Definitely a thumbs up. I also listened to Need by Carrie Jones. I don't recommend the audiobook though. I really didn't like the way the voices were done by the actress reading it. Kinda ruined it for me. However, I think I'll still get the next book in the series and create the voices in my head.

  25. Awesome. I could really use the crit!

The last book I read was Dragonspell by Donita K. Paul. It has just the kind of fantasy/adventure I love, so I give it a thumbs up. I'm currently listening to the sequel as an audiobook.

  27. This is too cool for words. :)

So, my most recent read was "Hunger Games". I know... I was a little late joining the bandwagon on that one, but now, I'm firmly on board.
That trilogy is definitely a two-thumbs up. :D

  30. Awesomesauce! So excited!

    H'okay!

Most recent read would be The Other Side: Posession in Death -J.D. Robb.

Thumbs way up! I'm a diehard NR fan, so I'm a bit biased. It's like giving your mom a bad grade on her cooking. Makes you feel guilty. Despite my bias I did like it, for an anthology. There were a few sentances I had to re read as they didnt read right the first time, but aside from that loved it! Especially liked the paranormal twist to this typically very grounded character(Eve Dallas). I was worried that adding paranormal to the future cop seriees would be too much, but it played well.
